Founded in 1972 by Dick and Sue Akers, Akers Signs quickly earned a reputation for quality sign making and personalized service. Dick Akers began hand-painting signs in his teens, honing his skills during his service in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany. The early days of the company saw the Akers family living and working together in their shop, a testament to their dedication and passion.

Rick Akers, the eldest son, grew up immersed in the art and business of sign making. Beginning his journey with Akers Signs in 1982, Rick brought both skill and vision to the company. From 2006 to 2020, he led Akers Signs with great success, steering the business into modern times by embracing electric signage and innovative techniques. His commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction laid a strong foundation that propelled the company forward.

In 2020, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Michelle—who had worked closely with Rick and understood the company’s values—took the reins of Akers Signs. Now a proudly women-owned business, Michelle, alongside her husband Ron, navigated the uncertain times with resilience and determination. Their leadership honors Rick’s legacy while forging a new path for the future of the company.
